II. Data format.

PCBs are made according to documentation supplied by the customer. Properly completed documentation is usually generated with use of CAD programmes.
There are many CAD programmes that could be used for designing PCBs and, additionally to the standard formats of the design data records, most of them have also their own formats of data.
To meet the requirements of all our customers, we preferably use the standard data formats, common for such type of software: Gerber RS-274-D with apertures, Gerber RS-274-X, Excellon, Sieb&Meyer.

The design data should be divided into two parts::

a part responsible for PCB topography, i.e. arrangement of tracks, location of pads etc.,.

drilling files.

Every design in a text file should have an aperture table attached (format: Gerber RS-274-D), for example:

Aperture name Shape Dimensions ( X , Y )

D12 rectangle 12 x 30

D13 circle 10 x 10

D14 rectangle 6 x 8

D15 rectangle 12 x 30

If the co-ordinates are not specified, we read the first number as X and the second number as Y.
All specified values should be expressed in the same units, for example mils.
The drilling files should be also generated in a known format, preferably compatible with Excellon and Sieb&Meyer specification.

Technical documentation that is generated in compliance with our preferences allows to process orders in the shortest possible time and facilitates elimination of unnecessary errors.

2.1. General remarks.

All the designs should be made as seen from the component side, also called the Top side. We recommend labelling individual layers with inscriptions, making easier elimination of possible doubts.

·For mechanical treatment, please provide an outline of the board defined on a separate layer and a drawing with exact dimensions (especially in case of circuits with non-rectangular shape that requires profile routing).

·Specified hole diameters are considered as final diameters (i.e. after metal plating).

· Selection of a minimum diameter for a plated-through hole:

Thus, for a circuit with standard thickness of 1,55 mm the smallest allowable drill has ~ 0,3 mm diameter, and for 2,0 mm laminate – 0,4 mm diameter.

You should always remember that:

Final hole diameter = Drill diameter – metal plating

· All notes and remarks to the files should be included in a separate text file.

2.2. The documentation can be delivered to our company by.

·Electronic mail. Files with compressed design data, provided with a description file can be sent at the following address: : info@basista.de

CD-ROM

Floppy disc (floppies 3.5”).

Written orders can be placed personally, by fax, electronic mail or by regular mail. Every order should be provided with a legibly filled technological card, including complete data on the details of execution of a given PCB, i.e. PCB’s dimensions, laminate thickness, thickness of copper, technology (double-sided, x-layer), mask, description (go to page.. ), peelable mask, electric testing etc.

Correctly completed technological card will also shorten the time needed to present a quotation to your inquiry.

Particular attention should be paid to names used for the printed circuit boards, as the maximum length of a name must not exceed 10 characters and should be changed in the event of any alteration in the board design. By indicating the successive versions of a board (for example DRUK/1 or DRUK/a) you help us to eliminate unnecessary errors.
